Quand le soleil baisse et que les feux de charbon s'allument, nous vous emmenons dans un centre de hawker en plein air où l'on cuisine juste devant vous. Regardez préparer le Hokkien Mee au-dessus des flammes jusqu'à ce que le bouillon de crevettes devienne fumant et foncé. Goûtez au fried carrot cake, collant et caramélisé à la poêle. Nommée d'après le premier président de la Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce, cette route porte des siècles d'histoire de Georgetown dans chaque shophouse. Nous passons devant le Sun Yat-Sen Museum, la Masjid Pakistan et le couloir patrimonial du Penang State Museum avant de monter sur un toit caché au-dessus du premier centre commercial de Penang, construit en 1967. De là-haut, la ligne d'horizon de Georgetown s'étend comme vous ne l'attendriez pas. Ensuite vient le durian. Jalan Macalister, du nom du gouverneur de Penang du 19e siècle, est un kilomètre d'étals indépendants. Can this tour be run as a vegetarian option?

Yes! We can adapt this tour for vegetarian diets. However, in a standard join-in tour not every meat dish can be replaced with a vegetarian alternative. Some stops are set-menu or specialised stalls where the recipe is fixed. Do we get to meet the vendors?

That's the whole point. We take you to family-run stalls where the owner will shake your hand, show you their technique, and share the story behind their recipe. It's not a restaurant visit — it's a visit to someone's life's work.

Flag it when you book and we'll brief your guide. Malaysian cooking uses peanuts, shrimp paste, and soy frequently — but we know which stalls can accommodate and which to avoid. We take allergies seriously.
